Arrest History in Colfax County
Five agencies can create a local arrest report. The Colfax County Sheriff's Office handles unincorporated areas, county process, and warrants. Raton Police, Angel Fire Police, and Springer Police keep reports for arrests their officers make. New Mexico State Police keeps its highway and state-investigation records through the Department of Public Safety. The arresting agency's narrative remains distinct from the booking file created at the county jail.
Qualifying fingerprints can also reach the New Mexico State Central Repository. That repository covers adult arrests supported by submitted fingerprint cards, including felonies, DWI, and misdemeanors punishable by six months or more. Its completeness depends on contributing agencies. A court then creates a docket only if a charge is filed. The case can use a charge different from the one first listed at arrest.

Which Colfax County Agency Arrested

How to Look Up Colfax County Arrests

Colfax County Jail Booking Records
Vigil-Maldonado Detention Center is the Colfax County jail for pretrial and short local custody. It stands at 444 Hereford Avenue in Raton, was built in 1989, and has 42 beds. The official page does not publish a current population, live booking search, booking-number lookup, release desk number, or public roster. A person seeking recent custody data should contact detention through the sheriff rather than use an unofficial inmate site.

What an Arrest Record Shows
A Colfax County arrest record can span an agency report and a jail booking record. The report may describe the event, the legal basis for custody, and the alleged offense. The jail file focuses on intake, custody authority, holds, bond, housing, and release. Public copies may redact victim data, minors' data, medical facts, personal identifiers, confidential sources, or material tied to an active investigation.

The same arrest may therefore require two requests: one to the arresting agency for the incident narrative and one to Vigil-Maldonado for the Colfax County booking and custody entry.

The Sheriff's Office does not publish a branded records division, copy-request portal, or sheriff fee sheet. The county clerk's official notice states that written requests receive an immediate response or one as soon as circumstances permit, no later than fifteen days after receipt. That notice reflects the New Mexico Inspection of Public Records Act deadline, but each request must still go to the custodian that holds the Colfax County arrest record.
The sheriff-authorized eFORCE citizen reporting portal serves a different job.
It accepts qualifying non-emergency incident reports; it is not a search tool or a way to order a copy of an existing arrest report.

A local report may exist even when a DPS arrest cycle is incomplete. Missing fingerprints or late submissions can create gaps. The reverse can also occur when the statewide repository shows a supported arrest while the online court docket needs a corrected or newly reported outcome.
Colfax County and DPS Arrest History
New Mexico does not offer the general public an instant name-search portal for statewide criminal history. Under Section 29-10-6 NMSA 1978, a person may inspect their own arrest record in person, through counsel, or through an authorized agent. The NMDPS Law Enforcement Records Bureau requires its completed notarized Authorization for Release of Information, an original signature, and $15 per record check by money order or cashier's check.
The DPS result is a fingerprint-supported statewide arrest compilation, not just a Colfax County booking list. It should be compared with certified court dispositions when an outcome looks missing or wrong. The local agency owns its report, the court owns its docket, and DPS owns its repository compilation. A correction request must go to the system that contains the error.
